Homemade Bath Bombs

Purpose, Scope or Aim of the OER

The aim of this resource is to use chemistry to make relaxing bath bombs. We have included this OER to support students to see the science behind some everyday products that they use and like.

Short Description of the methods or approaches used in this OER

This resource is a chemistry experiment. Once completed students will understand the science behind why and how their bath bombs dissolve.

Step-by-step instructions for teachers to use OER

⦁ Firstly, familiarise yourself with the experiment. Decide how much of each material listed you need. Is everyone working individually or in groups?
⦁ Before proceeding with the project, I would suggest telling the students to bring their own food colouring as this adds more individuality to the project.
⦁ Once the materials are gathered you can start explaining the method to your class. Carry out this method and be sure to create your own bath bombs too as these will be needed for testing results.
⦁ The results will take approx. 1-2 days so the next time you have the class you can check to see if the bath bombs set.
⦁ You can test your own bath bombs in a basin of water and see how they go. Then the students can take theirs home and test theirs. The next day you can compare results and see what could be done differently.
