The aim of including this resource is to support teachers to engage students in breaking down and questioning To break the stereotype that “a scientist” is not just “a man in a lab with a white coat” on. By defining what a scientist actually is, the aim is to support students and teachers to see women in this role as well as men.

This resource comprises a Series of questions that a teacher would ask their students related to what a scientist looks like and what they do.

Questions asked to scientists as to what they really do and why they decided to become one.

Step-by-step instructions for teachers to use OER

Firstly, ensure you have internet connection to play the video but don’t play it until these steps have been completed.

⦁ Ask your class the following questions and take note on a white board of the answers.
⦁ What does a scientist look like?
⦁ What does a scientist do?
⦁ Why do people become scientist?
⦁ How do you become a scientist?
⦁ Once you have asked these questions and noted the answers, play the OER video.
⦁ When the video is finished compare your answers with what you learned in the video.
⦁ Did you notice any similar answers, does anyone want to learn more about science now they watched the video?
